Toshiba Launches Brushed Motor Drives for Automotive Applications


Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has launched two brushed DC motor driver ICs, TB9054FTG in a wettable flank VQFN package and TB9053FTG in a power QFN package, for use in automotive applications, including electronic throttles. Samples of TB9054FTG are available now, with mass production scheduled for March 2022. Samples of TB9053FTG will be ready in February 2021, with mass production scheduled for May 2022.

The number of H-bridge motor drivers used in the electronic throttles and various valves of automobiles, is on the rise, stimulating demand for system miniaturization and cost reduction. In addition, On-Board Diagnostic II (OBDII), the second generation of on-board self-diagnostic equipment requirements, will become mandatory in 2022, requiring automotive motor driver ICs to have SPI communication functions.

The new ICs feature 5A 2ch output drivers that help to reduce mounting area. A 10A 1ch drive in parallel mode is also possible. They can be daisy-chained, and also have functions that control motors only by SPI communication, both of which reduce MCU ports. Housed in 6.0 mm x 6.0 mm small QFN packages, the new motor drivers contribute to the system miniaturization that the market demands.

  • Built-in 2ch H-bridge driver - Output driver circuit is configured by DMOS FET with low on-resistance, realizing a 5A 2ch H-bridge driver. A 10A 1ch drive in parallel mode is also possible.
