Schaffner Introduces Common Mode Choke for Industrial Applications

Schaffner has announced the release of its new RT series N choke, designed for industrial applications, delivering superior performance while maintaining the same compact footprint as its predecessors. This innovative choke provides higher attenuation levels, making it ideal for environments with stringent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.

Enhanced Performance with Nanocrystalline Core Technology

The RT series N, including models RT8121, RT8131, RT8521, and RT8531, leverages nanocrystalline core technology to achieve up to 15 dB higher attenuation performance compared to previous ferrite-based models. Despite its enhanced capabilities, the choke retains a diameter of just 65 mm, providing designers with a powerful solution without the need for additional external EMC filters.

Effective EMI Elimination

The RT series N is engineered to filter electromagnetic common mode noise on the grid side of electrical devices, effectively eliminating electromagnetic interference (EMI) directly on a PCB. This makes it particularly valuable for machine and electronics manufacturers with power requirements ranging from 10 kW to 80 kW.

Versatile Applications

Ideal for power supplies in electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, robotics, photovoltaic inverters, converters, uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), switch mode power supplies, LED lighting, communication devices, and medical/laboratory equipment, the RT series N features a high-quality, UL-approved insulation system that facilitates easy customization.

Simplified Design Process

The new choke not only offers excellent impedance across the relevant parts of the EMC frequency band but also simplifies the design process. It provides horizontal and vertical PCB mounting options, as well as a choice of 2-wire and 3-wire configurations for DC, 2-line AC, and 3-phase applications.
