The STC3117 from STMicroelectronics is a Gas gauge Battery Management IC that is ideal for mobile phones, multimedia players, digital cameras, and portable medical equipment applications. It requires an input voltage of 2.7 – 4.5 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) utilizes a patented OptimGauge algorithm to provide precise battery capacity calculations and accurate state-of-charge (SOC) monitoring, irrespective of battery aging, varying operating conditions, or temperature fluctuations. It signals low SOC state at the output or low voltage conditions and also indicates fault conditions such as missing or swapped batteries. This BMIC features a robust initial open-circuit voltage (OCV) measurement at power-up to ensure reliable readings. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 1.46 x 1.564 mm.
