The SiP31001 from Vishay is a Battery Monitoring and Protective Discharge IC that is designed to protect a single-cell Li-Ion battery from sudden voltage surges under elevated temperature conditions. It requires an input voltage of 2.3 - 5.5 V. This IC allows the battery to relax after being charged, even when it is kept on-float or during trickle charge scenarios. It discharges batteries at a constant rate when pre-set safeguard limits of both battery voltage and temperature are exceeded and automatically stops the discharge operation when either the battery voltage or temperature falls below the threshold. This protective discharge IC switches to monitoring mode when the battery voltage is over 4 V and remains in this state for up to 5 ms to compare voltage and temperature values with pre-set limits.

The SiP31001 integrates a TST pin that enables the production test of the discharge switch without forcing excessive voltage and utilizes an over-temperature protection circuit to prevent overheating-related damages. This battery monitor IC is available as a chip that measures 1.25 x 1.25 mm and is ideal for cellular phones, smartphones, tablet devices, portable media players, digital cameras, and one-cell Li-Ion battery power devices applications.
