The MLX91235 from Melexis is an Automotive-Qualified Coreless Current Sensor that has been designed to provide immunity to stray fields and achieve high accuracy measurements. This transducer requires a supply voltage of 3.3 - 5 V (DC). It provides an output current from 200 A to 10000 A. This monolithic sensor has a coreless design that eliminates the need for external ferromagnetic elements (like C-cores or U-shields), thereby reducing the bill of materials (BOM). It uses the principle of Hall effect to accurately measure the magnetic flux density applied perpendicularly to its surface, providing a proportional analog output voltage over a bandwidth from DC to 500 kHz. This AEC-Q100-qualified sensor uses a digital full-duplex SPI interface to adjust the fine gain, offset, and over-current threshold during end-of-line customer calibration. It integrates a stress sensor that compensates for lifetime effects, ensuring long-term accuracy.
This current sensor benefits from programmable over-current detection, temperature monitoring and self-test functionality. It is available in a surface-mount package and is ideal for automotive, e-mobility and other applications involving inverters, battery management systems (BMS), low voltage DC-DC converters, smart battery junction boxes, smart fuse and power distribution applications.
