The MAX5902AAEUT+T from Analog Devices is a Hot-Swap Controller that is ideal for network routers, servers, network switches, RAID systems, base station line cards, and industrial systems applications. It requires an input voltage of 9 - 72 V and an input current of less than 2 mA. This controller simplifies the hot-swap process by eliminating the need for an external sense resistor and driving an external P-channel MOSFET to limit the inrush current. It manages the inrush current by gradually turning on the MOSFET during startup and provides over-current protection by monitoring the voltage across the MOSFET, once fully activated.
This controller features adjustable under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and thermal shutdown to protect against false triggers or overheating, and a power-good status output for monitoring. It also offers latched or auto-retry fault management with selectable circuit-breaker thresholds. This hot-swap controller is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3.10 x 3.10 mm.
