The L9805E from STMicroelectronics is a Software Controlled Motor Driver that is designed to drive resistive and inductive loads using a software platform. It has an input voltage of 6.4 - 18 V and provides an output current of up to 25 mA. This motor driver integrates an ST7 microprocessor that executes the software contained in the EPROM/ROM using dedicated registers. It includes internal voltage regulators that are suited to an automotive environment, PWM modules, a CAN transceiver, a temperature sensor, and an AID converter that allows the device to realize a complete application by the most typical mechatronic requirements. This power motor driver consists of an 8-bit CPU architecture with six internal registers that allow for efficient 8-bit data manipulation.
The L9805E uses a crystal ceramic resonator, or an external clock signal at the MCU to drive the internal oscillator and connects an oscillator supervisor unit to provide a real-time status check of the crystal oscillator. The motor driver utilizes a watchdog timer to detect the occurrence of a software fault due to external interference or unforeseen logical conditions, thereby causing the application program to deviate from its normal sequential processing condition. It offers complete developmental support on DOS/Windows real-time emulators with software packages such as C-compiler, cross-assembler, and debugger. This driver IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 17.40 x 17.40 x 3.15 mm.
