The nPM1100 from Nordic Semiconductor is a Dedicated Power Management IC that has been designed as a complementary component to Nordic’s nRF52 Series and nRF53 Series System-on-Chip (SoCs) to ensure reliable power delivery and stable operation. This PMIC requires an input voltage of 4.1 - 6.7 V. It includes a dual-mode configurable buck DC-DC regulator and a battery charger. This power IC can be used as a generic PMIC that can charge lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries on a termination voltage selectable to 4.1 - 4.2 V supporting cell chemistries with a nominal voltage of 3.6 and 3.7 V, respectively. It allows for forced PWM mode to ensure clean power operation and uses USB for charging with automatic port detection.
The nPM1100 consists of a soft startup, constant current/voltage, battery thermal protection, and automatic transition function between hysteresis and PWM modes to prevent over-current-related damages. It is available in a wafer-level package and is ideal for smart home sensors, personal medical devices, remote controls, and wearable applications.
