The TEA1708T/1J from NXP Semiconductors is an Automatic Discharge IC that has been designed for automatic discharging of X capacitors with a low power consumption. It requires an input voltage from −0.4 V to +3.5 V. This power management IC (PMIC) features a built-in clamping circuit with a clamping voltage of 500 V that protects against mains surges, thereby eliminating the need for a separate metal-oxide varistor (MOV). It internally limits the discharge current and enables precise control over discharge delay through an externally connected low-voltage capacitor. This IC is self-supplied with no external bias requirement and also supports the use of high-value X capacitors to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI).
This PMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 x 6.2 mm and is ideal for AC-connected power supplies (containing X-capacitors with capacitance exceeding 100 nF and requiring very low standby power) applications.
