The AP33771 from Diodes Incorporated is a USB Type-C PD Sink Controller that is designed to provide DC power requests and control for Type-C connector-equipped devices. This power sourcing equipment (PSE) controller requires a DC voltage of 3.3 V to 24 V. It is based on a cost-effective solution and does not require external, discrete, and high voltage components such as LDOs. This PSE controller uses a search algorithm that supports both fixed PDO and PPS APDO. It interprets power requirements from the TCD and then establishes a power link with an external USB PD 3.0 adapter to output a suitable DC power. This RoHS-compliant controller embeds rich power functions on the chip to reduce the total Bill of Materials (BOM) while maintaining maximum flexibility.
The AP33771 provides power capability selection and supports one-time programmable (OTP) ROM to store the PD/sink controller firmware. This controller incorporates hard-reset and auto-restart features to offer over-voltage protection to prevent short-circuit-related damages. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm and is ideal for USB Type-C connector-equipped battery-powered devices, USB Type-C connector-equipped DC-power input devices, USB Type C-to-traditional barrel connector power adapter cables, and USB PD 3.0 PPS tester applications.
