What is an Isolated Gate Driver?
Isolated Gate Driver is used to provide galvanic isolation between the low voltage logic control circuits and high voltage circuits that use power transistors such as IGBT/MOSFET, etc.). The signal transfer between these isolated circuits is achieved by means of an on-chip transformer, optical technique, or capacitive coupling. It also provides appropriate voltage and current to drive the power transistors.
Key features of Isolated Gate Driver:
- Safety of end-user
- Protecting LV circuits from HV Circuits
- Filtering of Common mode noise
- Breaking ground loops ( helpful to eliminate Ground Loop Noise)
- Level shift between power domains
- High common-mode transient immunity (CMTI)
- Short propagation delay
- Small pulse width distortion
- Undervoltage lockout (UVLO) protection
- Active miller clamping (Reduces the risk of induced turn-on in high dV/dt conditions)
- Thermal protection function
- Short current protection (SCP)
Isolated Gate Drivers are ideal for use in uninterruptible power supply (UPS), HVAC, heaters, industrial power supplies, solar inverters, automotive inverter, automotive DC-DC converter, motor control & drives, construction & agricultural vehicles (CAV), traction inverters for EVs, automotive applications, on-board charger & DC charging station, industrial inverter System, isolated IGBT/MOSFET gate driver, AC and brushless DC motor drives, induction stovetop, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), variable-speed motor control, isolated switch mode, and commercial applications.
