The AOZ22559QI from Alpha & Omega Semiconductor is a DC-DC Synchronous Buck Regulator that is designed to enable high efficiency and ease of use. It requires an input voltage of 5.5 – 25 V. This regulator IC utilizes a proprietary constant on-time pulse width modulation (PWM) control with input feed-forward technology, ensuring ultra-fast transient response and stable switching frequency over the entire input range. It has an on-time of over 70 ns that supports low output voltages at very high operating frequencies. This PMIC has an integrated AC ripple injection, which supports all-ceramic output filter capacitors, reduces the PCB footprint, and eliminates the need for external components. It offers a selectable pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode to optimize efficiency during light load conditions and a forced PWM mode to maintain a constant frequency, thereby reducing harmonic noise.
The regulator consists of multiple protection mechanisms, such as under-voltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, output over-voltage protection, short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown to prevent over-load or over-heating-related damages. It supports remote sensing for accurate voltage regulation and features an adjustable current limit, soft-start, and a power-good output signal. The regulator integrates a bootstrap diode to improve system efficiency by minimizing switching losses. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm and is ideal for compact PCs and gaming systems, set-top boxes and LCD TVs, server & storage systems, datacom and networking, embedded computing, and point-of-load DC/DC converter applications.
