The AOZ71137QI from Alpha & Omega Semiconductors is a Digital/Analog Hybrid Multi-Phase Buck Controller that is designed to offer compliance with Intel IMVP8, 9, and 9.1/9.2 platform specifications. It requires an input voltage of 2.5 - 24 V. This power management IC (PMIC) provides 3 output rails (up to 4 + 2 + 1) and supports 4 separate SVID domains: up to 4 phases for core voltage domain, 2 phases for graphics voltage domain, and 1 phase for auxiliary domain along with PSYS domain’s reporting functions incorporated into a single SVID interface. It utilizes Alpha & Omega Semiconductor’s novel advanced transient modulator and combines advanced variable frequency hysteretic peak current mode control with proprietary phase current sensing scheme for fast transient response and low system cost. This PMIC’s control loop enhances light-load efficiency by seamlessly entering the direct current mode (DCM) mode of operation and autonomously manages the phase of the signal to assure optimized efficiency and power loss during light-load. It is equipped with SMBus interface for register programming such as tuning and configuration, which minimizes the system components and eliminates the need for manual solder rework on the system board.
This PMIC can be interfaced with proprietary GUI or customized ECS and into the controller’s built-in RAM or MTP to allow for programmability and the settings can be stored in the memories once the configuration is finalized and updated more than 10 times. It also uses an external resistor for the pin strap to choose 1 out of 6 configuration settings pre-programmed into the parts to achieve easy bill of materials (BOM) management and reduce the part count. This digital controller also includes under-voltage protection (UVP), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP), and over-temperature protection (OTP) to prevent over-load or over-heating-related damages. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 6 x 6 mm and is ideal for meteor lake notebooks, memory and graphic cards, and video game console applications.
