The SPSB100PTR from STMicroelectronics is an Automotive-Qualified Power Management System IC that has been designed specifically for highly integrated application processors such as the Stellar G and P MCU families. It requires an input voltage of 3-29 V and provides an output voltage of 7.7-29 V (Boost output). This power management IC (PMIC) consists of buck converters, voltage regulators, a boost controller, a high-side driver, protection/diagnostics, serial interfaces, and driver/logic interfaces. It supports 2 configurable buck converters with a peak switching current limit of 3 A and 1 configurable buck converter with a peak switching current limit of up to 6 A. The boost controller has a peak switching current limit of 4.2 A and helps to sustain low battery conditions occurring for a transitory time and deep cold cranking pulses.
This AEC-Q100-qualified PMIC uses the high-side driver for contact monitoring with open-load and over-current diagnosis. It also has a dedicated interrupt pin to communicate failure conditions via interfaces such as SPI. This PMIC integrates temperature sensors and thermal clusters that measure the temperature of the IC and then transmit the recorded data to the A/D converter. This converter processes the measured data and converts it into a digital equivalent for display. This power management IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 8 x 8 x 0.9 mm and has a wettable flank.
