EVSE Load Management Calculator
EVSE Load Management is the intelligent control of power delivered to EV chargers to prevent electrical overloads while maximizing available charging capacity. An EVSE Load Management Calculator estimates available site capacity and determines how charging power should be distributed among multiple EV chargers without exceeding electrical limits.
Enter the Voltage, Current, Total Available Power, Base Load, Number of EVSEs, Maximum Power Per EVSE and Simultaneous Usage Factor to calculate the estimated load management in an EVSE.
This EVSE Load Management Calculator determines the safe charging capacity at a site by accounting for available service power, existing base load, and applicable continuous-load limits (such as the NEC 80% rule). It allocates the remaining power across multiple EVSEs based on simultaneous usage, helping planners evaluate charging capacity, load-management needs, and potential infrastructure upgrades without exceeding electrical limits.
Example:
For a 200 kW site with 20 kW Base Load, 10x 19.2 kW Level 2 EVSEs (40 A at 240 V), and 70% usage,
Available Charging Power = 200 kW-20 kW = 180 kW
Maximum Load Per EVSE = 0.8 x (240 x 40)/1000) = 7.68 kW
Number of Active EVSEs = 10 x 70/100 = 7
Balanced Power Per Active EVSE = 180/7 = 25.7 kW
