EV Total Cost of Ownership Calculator
This calculator calculates the true long-term cost of owning an electric vehicle. Factor in purchase price, incentives, energy costs, maintenance, insurance, depreciation, and resale value for data-driven fleet or personal decisions. It thus delivers comprehensive financial insights for electric vehicles by integrating upfront and operational costs.
Enter the Battery Capacity, Energy Use Per Kilometre, Electricity Cost Per kWh, Distance Covered Annually, Time Period, Annual Maintenance Cost, Battery Replacement Cost and State of Health to determine the total cost of EV ownership
This calculator can be used to benchmark EV powertrains against traditional vehicles, supporting sustainable transitions in automotive and fleet operations. It becomes useful in optimising investments by quantifying hidden costs like battery degradation and charging infrastructure.
Example:
For a 50 kWh EV driven 15000 km/year over 5 years with 0.17 kWh/km, $0.18/kWh, $500/year maintenance, $8000 battery cost, with SOH 90%,
Annual Energy Use = 15000 x 0.17 = 2550 kWh
Annual Energy Cost = 2550 x 0.18 = $ 459
Total Energy Cost = 459 x 5 = $2295
Total Maintenance Cost = 500 x 5 =$ 2500
Battery Degradation Cost = 8000 × 0.1 = $ 800
Total TCO = 2295 + 2500 + 800 = $ 5595
TCO Per Kilometre = 5595/ (15000 x 5) = $ 0.0746
