Weidmuller Enhances Industrial Power Management with PROeco II

Weidmuller has expanded its industrial power management portfolio with the PROeco II series, a next-generation family of switch-mode power supplies designed to maximize the availability of automation applications while simplifying installation and maintenance. Developed for a wide range of industrial environments, the platform combines high energy efficiency, compact design, intelligent diagnostics, and advanced connectivity features to support modern automation, machine-building, robotics, energy, and infrastructure systems.

The PROeco II series has been engineered to provide reliable DC power distribution for industrial control systems while addressing the growing demand for space-efficient and energy-conscious power architectures. The twelve-part product family offers standardized functionality with a focus on performance, efficiency, and broad system compatibility. According to Weidmüller, the power supplies are compatible with DC UPS units, electronic load monitoring modules, and diode modules, enabling the creation of comprehensive power management systems for critical automation applications.

A key feature of the PROeco II platform is its high conversion efficiency of up to 95 percent. By minimizing energy losses during power conversion, the units help reduce heat generation within control cabinets and lower overall operating costs. The power supplies also feature extremely low idle power consumption, further contributing to energy savings in continuously operating industrial systems.

The compact design of the PROeco II family addresses the space constraints commonly encountered in modern automation environments. With a shallow installation depth of 100 mm and models starting at widths as low as 32 mm, the power supplies are optimized for compact control cabinets and space-limited installations. This makes them suitable for decentralized automation architectures and field-level control systems where enclosure space is at a premium.

Weidmuller has also integrated enhanced diagnostic capabilities into the platform to improve system visibility and maintenance efficiency. A three-color LED status indicator provides immediate visual feedback regarding operating conditions, while an integrated status relay enables monitoring of device health during commissioning and operation. The diagnostic system is designed to simplify troubleshooting and accelerate service activities, helping operators maintain high levels of system availability.

The latest PROeco II models further incorporate Weidmuller's proprietary SNAP IN connection technology. Described by the company as the first power supply platform on the market to feature SNAP IN, the technology enables tool-free wiring through preloaded spring connections. Installers simply insert a stripped conductor into the connection point, where an audible click confirms a secure electrical connection. The connection can be released by pressing an integrated pusher, enabling rapid rewiring and long-term serviceability.

The SNAP IN technology has been developed to reduce wiring effort, accelerate installation, and support automated manufacturing processes. The company describes the technology as "READY-TO-ROBOT," making it suitable for highly automated panel-building and production environments where installation speed and repeatability are increasingly important.

Reliability is another central aspect of the PROeco II design. The power supplies are capable of starting at temperatures as low as -40°C and are designed for operation across a wide temperature range. Weidmüller also specifies a mean time between failures (MTBF) exceeding one million hours, supporting long operational lifetimes in demanding industrial environments.

The PROeco II series is intended for deployment across a broad range of sectors, including OEM machine building, industrial automation and robotics, material handling systems, building automation, transportation infrastructure, and energy applications. Through the combination of high efficiency, compact mechanical design, intelligent diagnostics, and simplified wiring technology, Weidmuller aims to provide a flexible and cost-effective power distribution platform capable of supporting the evolving requirements of modern industrial systems.
