Eco Wave Power is advancing the utilization of ocean energy through its patented shore-based wave energy conversion technology, an innovative system engineered to transform the kinetic and potential energy contained in sea and ocean waves into clean, grid-connected electricity. By leveraging existing coastal infrastructure and positioning critical energy conversion equipment onshore, the company aims to address the reliability, maintainability, and cost challenges traditionally associated with marine energy systems.
At the core of Eco Wave Power's technology are specially designed floaters installed on existing man-made marine structures, including breakwaters, jetties, piers, and seawalls. These floaters are engineered to capture the vertical motion induced by passing waves and convert it into mechanical energy. As the wave-induced motion causes the floaters to rise and fall, hydraulic pistons attached to the floaters compress and pressurize an environmentally friendly, biodegradable hydraulic fluid.
The pressurized fluid is transferred through hydraulic pipelines to a land-based power conversion unit comprising accumulators, hydraulic motors, generators, and control systems. The accumulators play a critical role by storing hydraulic energy and smoothing the intermittent nature of wave motion, thereby creating a more stable and continuous energy flow. The stored hydraulic energy subsequently drives hydraulic motors coupled to electric generators, enabling the production of electrical power suitable for delivery to the utility grid.

Unlike many conventional wave energy technologies that employ offshore structures, subsea cabling, and underwater power conversion equipment, Eco Wave Power's architecture places nearly all mechanical and electrical components onshore. By restricting offshore elements primarily to the floaters and hydraulic cylinders, the system minimizes exposure of critical components to corrosive seawater environments, simplifying maintenance procedures and improving operational accessibility. This configuration also eliminates the need for seabed anchoring and extensive underwater electrical infrastructure, reducing installation complexity and environmental impact.
A key differentiating feature of the technology is its integrated autonomous storm protection mechanism. The system continuously monitors sea conditions through dedicated sensors and control systems. During severe weather events or extreme wave conditions, the floaters are automatically elevated above the water surface and secured to the supporting structure, protecting the energy conversion system from excessive mechanical loads and ensuring survivability under harsh marine conditions. Once normal operating conditions are restored, the floaters are automatically returned to their power-generating position.
The modular nature of the technology allows wave energy projects to be scaled according to local resource availability and energy requirements. In addition to utility-scale electricity generation, Eco Wave Power envisions broader applications of its technology platform, including integration with desalination systems, energy storage solutions, and green hydrogen production facilities.
By combining hydraulic energy conversion, intelligent control systems, storm-resilient operation, and the use of existing coastal infrastructure, Eco Wave Power is seeking to establish a practical and commercially viable pathway for harnessing one of the world's largest untapped renewable energy resources. The company's approach is intended to complement other renewable technologies such as solar and wind power while contributing to the diversification and decarbonization of the global energy mix.
