Taiwan Semiconductor has introduced its new ThinDPAK family of Schottky rectifiers with ultrafast recovery. ThinDPAK devices have the same footprint as conventional DPAKs but are thinner (1.33 mm) and provide superior power density and thermal performance. The new Schottky diodes ensure reliability in automotive power electronics, high-frequency inverters, steering diodes in high-voltage (HV) applications, DC/DC converters, freewheeling diodes, reverse battery protection, lighting, and many other applications.
Advanced ThinDPAK devices with a planar Schottky topology provide industry-leading rectification efficiency while dissipating less heat than alternatives. The thermal resistance (RjA) of the new ThinDPAK devices is 21.9% less for the heat dissipated. In addition, the devices are lighter and take up less space than conventional DPAKs.
According to Taiwan Semiconductor, the new ThinDPAK Schottky diodes are ideal for optimizing new designs and enhancing the performance of existing ones. Although the new Schottky diodes are thinner than standard DPAKs, their footprint is identical, allowing for straightforward drop-in replacement and trial.
The ThinDPAK series includes 34 devices with reverse voltage (VVRRM) ratings ranging from 45Vdc to 200Vdc and current ratings of up to 150A. There are single and dual (common cathode) device configurations available.
