TDK Introduces AEC-Q200 Qualified Varistors for On-board Chargers and Photovoltaic Systems

TDK Corporation unveils two innovative varistor series in SMD design, catering to diverse applications with their high surge current capabilities. The newly launched B72210M and B72214M series offer a broad operating voltage range from 175 VRMS to 460 VRMS, equivalent to 225 VDC to 615 VDC.

Designed to meet stringent requirements, the B72210M series delivers a surge current capability of 6000 A, while the B72214M series boasts an impressive 10,000 A surge current capability. Both series are engineered to withstand high operating temperatures up to +125 °C and challenging damp heat environments (85% relative humidity at +85 °C).

Qualified to AEC-Q200 standards, these varistors come in horizontal and vertical versions, enhancing design flexibility for various applications. The horizontal variants measure 22 x 15 x 11 mm and 27 x 18 x 11 mm (L x W x H) for the B72210M* and B72214M* series, respectively. Meanwhile, the vertical types feature dimensions of 15 x 10 x 20 mm and 18 x 10 x 25.5 mm.

The introduction of these SMD high surge varistors addresses the needs of industries such as on-board chargers, power supplies, frequency converters, photovoltaic systems, and household appliances. Their compact design enables space-saving benefits compared to leaded varistors without compromising performance, offering a reliable solution for surge protection in demanding environments.
