Taiwan Semiconductor Introduces Automotive Qualified Power Diodes for Security Purposes

Taiwan Semiconductor has introduced a new series of automotive-certified rectifiers with ESD resistance. The new TSD Series rectifiers offer a repeated peak reverse voltage (VRRM) of up to 600 V and ESD protection exceeding 10,000 V (according to IEC-61000-4-2).

The devices in the series have optional current ratings of 1A, 2A, and 3A, with operational temperature ranges from -40°C to ±175°C. All have a maximum forward voltage drop of 1.1V, low-reverse leakage current, and fast response time.

The TSD Series provides excellent protection in various applications, meeting automotive regulations. These features encompass input polarity protection for DC input voltage, bridge, and general-purpose rectification circuits, LED strings and POE I/O protection, ESD protection, clamping, snubber networks, and transient protection for data communication systems. They offer dependable protection for smoke detectors, industrial controls, security systems, communication systems, lighting, and other systems that require uninterrupted functioning.

Taiwan Semiconductor states that normal rectifiers have an ESD capability of less than 1.5 kV and do not fulfill the industry standards for ESD protection as outlined in IEC-61000-4-2 contact mode. ESD can penetrate ordinary polarity-protection rectifiers, leading to failure modes that can promptly harm the TVS or cause latent damage that may fail regular operation. The ESD-capable TSD Series devices were designed to endure and safeguard customers’ end equipment both presently and in the future.
