Diodes Incorporated has unveiled the AP22950, a high-voltage power switch designed for USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 Standard Power Range (SPR) ports. The device features multiple protection mechanisms, including reverse-current protection (RCP), undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage lockout (OVP), and overtemperature protection (OTP), ensuring a robust VBUS switch for demanding applications.
Equipped with a built-in TVS diode on the VBUS pin and paired with a 22 µF input capacitor, the AP22950 safeguards both itself and downstream systems from surges of up to 110 V, in compliance with IEC 61000-4-5 standards. Its enhanced reverse current protection blocks unwanted currents while supplying the highest voltage to the internal system, supporting portable devices with multiple power inputs.
Operating from a 2.5 V to 22.5 V VBUS input voltage range, the switch features a low 30milli-ohm on-resistance, enabling it to support USB PD3.1 SPR VBUS switch applications up to 100 W. The overvoltage protection threshold is set at 23 V by default, but can be externally adjusted from 4.0 V to 23 V via a resistor on the OVLO pin. Additionally, the ACKb pin provides a VBUS voltage status indicator.
The AP22950 comes in a compact U-WLB2515-15 package, offering:
- Wide 2.5 V to 22.5 V operating input voltage range
- Seamless automatic reverse-current blocking diode mode to prevent reverse currents
- 110V surge protection meeting IEC61000-4-5 standards
- Low 30 milli-ohm RON supports continuous load currents up to 5 A and output power up to 100 W
Applications include a robust USB PD VBUS switch in laptops, computer accessories, smartphones, tablets, portable speakers, USB power sinks, digital cameras, and wearable devices.
