High-Voltage PWM LED Driver for Offline High-Brightness Lighting

High-Voltage PWM LED Driver for Offline High-Brightness Lighting

Diodes Incorporated has unveiled the AL9910/A, a high-voltage PWM LED driver-controller designed to simplify the design of offline high-brightness LED lighting systems powered directly from rectified AC mains. Optimized for use with external MOSFETs, the device enables designers to implement scalable constant-current LED solutions that support a wide range of LED string configurations.

With flexible brightness control through both linear and PWM dimming, the AL9910/A is well-suited for applications including LED lamps, signage, decorative lighting, flat-panel display backlighting, and general-purpose constant-current sources, delivering stable illumination and design flexibility across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

The AL9910/A supports a universal rectified input range of 85VAC to 277VAC and can withstand input voltages up to 500V, providing strong immunity to line transients. It drives external MOSFETs at switching frequencies up to 300 kHz, programmable with a single resistor, and achieves greater than 90% efficiency. Output current is set using one external resistor, allowing the device to drive both low-current and high-current LED strings. The driver offers linear dimming via the LD pin and PWM dimming via the PWM_D pin with duty cycles from 0–100% at frequencies of several kilohertz. Additional features include an internal voltage regulator that eliminates the need for a startup resistor, 5V (AL9910) or 10V (AL9910A) MOSFET gate drive, tight current-sense tolerance options (5% and 6%), and internal thermal protection. The device is available in SO-8 and thermally enhanced SO-8EP packages and is lead-free, RoHS compliant, halogen-free, and antimony-free, supporting environmentally responsible designs.
