As electric mobility continues to scale globally, the demand for faster, more efficient, and highly reliable charging infrastructure has become a critical requirement for public charging networks and commercial EV fleets. Addressing this need, Alpitronic has developed the Hypercharger HYC400 Series 2, a next-generation ultra-fast DC charging platform engineered to deliver high power density, modular scalability, and advanced system efficiency for modern electric vehicle charging applications.
High-Power DC Fast-Charging Platform
The Hypercharger HYC400 Series 2 is designed as a high-performance DC fast-charging system capable of delivering up to 400 kW of charging power, enabling rapid energy transfer to high-capacity EV battery systems. The platform supports a wide DC output voltage range of approximately 150 V to 1000 V, ensuring compatibility with both existing EV architectures and next-generation high-voltage battery platforms increasingly used in premium and commercial electric vehicles.
The system is capable of delivering charging currents of up to 500 A per connector, enabling ultra-fast charging performance for vehicles designed to accept high-power DC input. By combining high current capability with a wide voltage operating window, the HYC400 Series 2 can support a broad spectrum of EV platforms, from passenger vehicles to commercial electric mobility solutions.
A key performance advantage of the system is its high conversion efficiency, reaching up to approximately 97.5%, achieved through advanced power electronics design and optimized AC-to-DC conversion stages. High efficiency not only minimizes energy losses during power conversion but also reduces thermal stress within the system, improving long-term reliability and lowering operational costs for charging network operators.
Modular Power Stack Architecture
The key to this system’s design is Alpitronic’s modular Power Stack architecture, which enables scalable power delivery while maintaining high operational flexibility. The charging system integrates 100 kW power modules that can be combined to deliver total system outputs ranging from 100 kW to 400 kW.
This modular approach offers several operational advantages. Charging station operators can initially deploy lower-power configurations and subsequently expand system capacity as EV adoption increases. The architecture also simplifies maintenance and servicing, as individual power modules can be replaced or upgraded without interrupting the entire charging system.
The platform also supports dynamic power distribution in 50 kW increments, allowing the charger to intelligently allocate available power across multiple connected vehicles. This feature ensures optimal utilization of installed charging capacity while enabling simultaneous charging of multiple EVs at different power levels, depending on vehicle charging capability.
Advanced Power Electronics and System Integration
The Hypercharger HYC400 Series 2 integrates high-efficiency power electronics, digital control systems, and thermal management technologies within a compact and robust charging cabinet. The charger accepts three-phase AC grid input and converts it into a regulated DC output using high-performance power conversion stages optimized for fast-charging applications.
The system incorporates active thermal management and liquid-cooled charging cables, enabling sustained high-current operation while maintaining safe operating temperatures for both internal power electronics and charging connectors. This is particularly important for ultra-fast charging applications where continuous high-power delivery is required.
To support modern charging infrastructure, the platform includes extensive connectivity and network management capabilities. The charger supports Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) for integration with backend energy management and billing platforms, enabling operators to manage charging sessions, monitor system performance, and implement load balancing across charging networks.
Additional connectivity options such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and cellular communication enable remote monitoring, firmware updates, and predictive maintenance functions, improving system uptime and operational efficiency. User interaction is facilitated through an integrated display and multiple authentication methods, including RFID, mobile applications, and QR-based access systems.
Enabling Scalable High-Power Charging Networks
With its combination of high-power capability, modular architecture, and advanced system efficiency, the Hypercharger HYC400 Series 2 is designed for deployment in demanding charging environments such as highway charging corridors, logistics hubs, commercial fleet depots, and high-traffic urban charging stations.
The platform’s scalable architecture and dynamic load management capabilities allow operators to optimize charging infrastructure deployment while maintaining flexibility for future network expansion. By supporting ultra-fast charging and intelligent power distribution, the system helps address one of the key challenges in EV adoption, reducing charging time while maximizing station throughput.
