Bourns, a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, announced the expansion of its Multifuse MF-LSMF High-Power Surface Mount Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) Resettable Fuse Series. Providing additional design options, the nine new models offer broader hold current (Ihold) ranges up to 7.0 A and increase the maximum voltage range up to 72 V. Specifically, the Model MF-LSMF600/16X (16 VDC, 6.0 A) is available in space-saving 2920 SMD packaging.
The entire MF-LSMF fuse line employs Bourns® innovative freeXpansion™ technology that boosts performance by incorporating higher hold currents, elevates voltages and enhances resistance stability in a compact footprint. These features meet advanced application requirements, primarily providing needed safeguards for low DC voltage ports in USB, IEEE 1394, and powered Ethernet IEEE 802.3af ports. Designed to shield against both overcurrent and overtemperature events within the specified parameters, these fuses are also ideal for low-voltage telecom equipment, industrial control, security systems and portable electronics.
Furthermore, MF-LSMF Series’ SMD terminals are manufactured with Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) plating to help ensure enhanced component reliability and longevity. In contrast, nickel-tin (Ni/Sn) plating, commonly used for competitive fuse terminals, is susceptible to issues such as whisker formation, oxidation, and corrosion, which can cause fuse short circuits, make high-quality soldering more difficult, and lead to early electronic circuit deterioration. The nine new models in the Bourns MF-LSMF High-Power Surface Mount PPTC Fuse Series are available now and are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
