The LTC4040 from Analog Devices is a Battery Backup Power Manager IC that has been designed for battery backup applications. It requires an input voltage of 3.5 – 5.5 V. It incorporates a high-current step-up DC/DC regulator capable of supporting a single-cell Li-Ion or LiFePO4 battery for backup power. This battery management IC (BMIC) has adjustable input current limits and an external disconnect switch for over-load protection that ensures safety and stability of the main supply during backup operations. It incorporates a 2.5 A boost regulator, facilitating smooth power delivery from the battery to the system output when needed. This BMIC offers optional input over-voltage protection and logic inputs for battery type selection and charge voltage programming. 

This BMIC provides a seamless transition from normal to backup mode, an input power loss indicator, a system power loss indicator, and the prioritization of load over-charge current, making it a reliable choice for backup power management. This power manager IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 5 mm and is ideal for fleet and asset tracking, automotive GPS data loggers, automotive telematics systems, toll collection systems, security systems, and USB-powered device applications.
