The MBMA7418TA1AE from NXP Semiconductors is a Battery Cell Controller IC designed for electric vehicle high voltage battery management, 48V systems, utility ESS, commercial ESS, residential ESS, micromobility, eBike, and eScooter applications. It integrates a DFT and an ADC per voltage measurement channel, enabling high synchronization capability essential for Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). This battery management IC (BMIC) integrates a DC-to-DC converter and operates with an ultra-low current consumption of 4 mA.

This IC supports ISO 26262 ASIL D for cell voltage and temperature measurements, ensuring automotive-grade safety. It features passive cell balancing using timer, voltage, PWM, and temperature control methods, along with external temperature and auxiliary voltage sensing. This BMIC supports communication via an isolated daisy chain supporting up to 62 nodes or an SPI interface. It delivers additional features such as diagnostics, functional safety, robustness, and a low external BOM cost.
