The IPG5 from McLaren Applied is a Silicon Carbide DC to AC Inverter that converts a DC input of 12-900 V to an AC output voltage of 800 V. This three-phase inverter can power electric motors over 350 kW (peak), and 250 kW (continuous). It has a peak current of 480 A, a continuous current of 320 A, and an efficiency of up to 97 %. This inverter is manufactured using SiC technology and switches more efficiently than conventional inverters, producing less heat and enabling a smaller cooling system – all of which reduce the weight and cost of the drivetrain. It is designed for direct drive automotive applications, capable of operating high-speed motors efficiently. The inverter is available in a chassis mount package that measures 262.5 x 176 x 82 mm and is ideal for commercial, industrial, and direct drive automotive applications.
