The MAX15068ATP+ from Analog Devices is a Dual ORing Hot-Swap Controller IC that offers ORing and hot-swap functions for two input supply rails requiring safe insertion and removing circuit line cards from a live backplane. It requires an input voltage of 2.9 - 18 V. This eFuse IC integrates dual ORing MOSFET controllers, a single hot-swap controller, electronic circuit-breaker protection, and power monitoring in a single package. It regulates the forward voltage drop across the ORing MOSFETs to ensure smooth current transfer from one supply to the other without oscillation. This controller IC provides fast turn-off when the input voltage fails or is shorted, thereby minimizing reverse current transients. It implements a foldback current limiting function during hot-swap startup to control the inrush current and maintain hot-swap MOSFET under safe operating area (SOA).
This hot-swap controller IC provides a current sense amplifier output signal that is proportional to the current delivered to the system. It enters an auto-retry mode under over-current fault conditions and allows the slew-rate to be controlled during startup. This controller also includes additional protection circuitries such as power-good and fault-indicator outputs.
