The STEF01FTR from STMicroelectronics is a Programmable Electronic Fuse that has been optimized for monitoring output current and the input voltage on DC power lines. It requires an input voltage of 8 - 48 V and delivers a continuous current of 4 A. It can detect and provide response to over-current and over-voltage conditions when connected in series to the main power rail and limits the output current to a safe value defined by the user. This e-fuse enters into an open state, thereby disconnecting the load from the power supply if an anomalous over-load condition persists. It is fully programmable with an adjustable turn-on time to maintain the in-rush current within the range during startup and hot-swap operations.
This e-fuse IC provides either thermal latch or auto-retry protection modes, which are selectable using a dedicated pin, an under-voltage lockout (UVLO), an over-voltage clamp that can be adjustable from 10 to 52 V. It integrates a gate driver pin for an external power MOSFET to implement a reverse-current blocking circuit and provides a signal to the fault pin to maximize thermal protection. This RoHS-compliant e-fuse IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 6.2 x 4.9 x 1 mm and is ideal for hot board insertion, electronic circuit breaker/power busing, industrial/alarm/lighting systems, distributed power systems, and telecom power modules applications.
