The L98GD8 from STMicroelectronics is an Automotive Fully Configurable 8-Channel MOSFET Pre-Driver IC. It requires a supply voltage of 4.5-5.5 V. This AEC-Q100 qualified MOSFET is designed to comply with 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V automotive battery systems, operating over a wide battery voltages. It includes eight channels that offer high configuration flexibility, supporting various output types, including low-side, high-side (N-channel and P-channel MOS), up to two H-bridges, and up to two peak and hold loads. This gate driver features programmable gate charge/discharge currents for improved EMI behaviour with configuration and full diagnostics managed via a 32-bit SPI protocol.
The L98GD8 is equipped with comprehensive protection and diagnostic features, including individual fault reporting for short circuit to battery, short circuit to ground, and open load. It requires a battery supply voltage of 3.8-58 V and has a propagation delay of 50 ns. This IC is available in a surface mount package that measures 10 x 10 mm and is ideal for automotive 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V applications, low-side, high-side, peak and hold, and H-Bridge load control, driving relays, motors, and all the resistive and inductive loads.
