The STDRIVE102H from STMicroelectronics is a Triple Half-Bridge Gate Driver IC that has been designed to drive 3-phase brushless motors. It requires an input voltage of 6-50 V and provides an output current of up to 2 A (sink). This driver consists of a control logic circuit, supply regulators, MOSFETs, an operational amplifier, 2 comparators, and other components. It supports programmable gate current and can drive 6 N-channel power MOSFETs, which results in excellent power stage and regulation of the slew rate of power outputs without using external resistors. This gate driver’s linear regulators are used to supply power to external low-voltage components, analog front-end, and low-side drivers. The amplifier can be used to monitor the voltage across the shunt resistors that sense the current flowing in the motor phases.
This gate driver IC is equipped with under-voltage lockout on each supply pin, thermal shutdown, and drain-source voltage monitoring circuitries to protect internal components from damage. When any protection circuit is triggered, the nFAULT pin is activated, thereby signaling the event at the open-drain output. This IC also has another open-drain pin that flags when the supply voltage level falls below the guard limit. This gate driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 6 x 6 mm. It is ideal for pumps, fans, e-bikes, portable vacuum cleaners, battery-supplied power tools, and industrial automation applications.
