The MIC29302 from Microchip Technology is a High-Current Low Dropout Regulator that has been designed for high current loads. This regulator requires an input voltage of 26 V. It provides an output current of 3 A and has a dropout voltage of less than 370 mV. This voltage regulator uses Super βeta PNP process with a PNP pass element allowing it to achieve low drop out voltage and very low ground current. It is also suited for lower current, extremely low dropout-critical systems, where its low dropout voltage and ground current values are important attributes. This voltage regulator features a zero-current shutdown mode which allows the device to minimize power consumption when not in use. It includes an error flag output that signals when the regulator is out of regulation.
This regulator is fully protected against overcurrent faults, reversed input polarity, reversed lead insertion, overtemperature operation, and positive and negative transient voltage spikes. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 0.38 x 0.549 x 0.6 inches and is ideal for battery-powered equipment, high-efficiency green computer systems, automotive electronics, high-efficiency linear power supplies and high-efficiency post-regulator for switching supply applications.
