The A5977GLPTR-T from Allegro MicroSystems is a Microstepping DMOS Motor Driver IC that has been designed for driving bipolar stepper motors in full/half/quarter/eighth-step modes. It requires an input voltage of 8 - 40 V. This motor driver includes a fixed off-time current regulator that can operate in slow, fast, or mixed-decay modes, which ensures reduced audible motor noise, increased step accuracy, and reduced power dissipation. It has a built-in translator that can drive the motor by providing the necessary step size inputs without the need to configure phase sequence tables, high-frequency control lines, or complex interfaces.
This motor driver has an internal synchronous rectification control circuitry which improves its power dissipation during pulse width modulation (PWM) operation. It includes circuit protection features such as thermal shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and crossover-current protection and eliminates the need for special power-up sequencing. This RoHS-compliant motor driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9.7 x 6.4 mm.
