The A89301 from Allegro MicroSystems is a Three-Phase Sensorless, Brushless DC Motor Controller IC that has been designed to optimize the motor startup performance in a stationary condition, a windmill condition, and a reverse windmill condition. It requires an input voltage of 5.5 - 50 V. This motor driver includes a gate driver, control logic circuit, power MOSFETs and DMOS, logic supply, charge pump, command line interfaces, protection circuits, and a memory unit. It implements field-oriented control (FOC) algorithm to achieve the best efficiency and acoustic noise performance. This motor driver controls the motor speed using analog, PWM, or clock input signals. It offers closed-loop speed control (optional) and a programmable RPM-to-clock frequency ratio.
This motor driver provides an I2C interface for setting motor-rated voltage, rated current, rated speed, resistance, and startup profiles and also allows other operations to be performed such as on/off control, speed control, and speed readback. It consists of soft-on soft-off (SOSO) functions and short-circuits protection (SCP) to prevent false triggers or overload-related damages. This motor driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 x 0.75 mm and is ideal for ceiling fans, pedestal fans, bathroom exhaust fans, home appliance fans, and pump applications.
