The A89306 from Allegro MicroSystems is a Three-Phase Sensorless, Brushless DC Motor Controller IC that has been designed to optimize the motor startup performance in stationary, windmill, and reverse windmill conditions. It requires an input voltage of 5.5 - 50 V. This motor driver offers ultra-low noise and code-free sensorless field-oriented control (FOC) operation for driving motors at up to 400 Hz. It provides open-loop operating modes, constant torque, constant power, and constant speed that are controlled using analog, PWM, or clock input signals. This motor driver offers closed-loop speed control (optional) with a programmable RPM-to-clock frequency ratio, and an I2C interface for programming and setting a variety of parameters such as motor-rated voltage, rated current, rated speed, resistance, and startup profiles. It also allows other operations to be performed such as on/off control, speed control, and speed readback. This motor controller consists of soft-on soft-off (SOSO) functions and short-circuits protection (SCP) to ensure quiet operation and prevent overload-related damages. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 x 5 x 0.90 mm and is ideal for ceiling fans, pedestal fans, bathroom exhaust fans, home appliance fans, and pump applications.
