The A89307KETSR-J from Allegro MicroSystems is an Automotive-Qualified Brushless DC Motor Driver (Gate Driver) IC that is ideal for fuel, radiator fans, battery cooling fans, and oil pumping applications. It requires an input voltage of 5.5-50 V and an input current of 8 mA. This 3-phase motor driver consists of a control logic block, flexible transformer, motor controller, an EEPROM, input signal control functions, voltage regulators, a gate driver, and protection circuitries. It implements a code-free sensorless field-oriented control (FOC) algorithm to achieve high efficiency and acoustic noise performance. The algorithm supports constant torque, speed and power modes along with open-loop operating modes. The driver also operates in other modes during startup – stationary, windmill, and reverse windmill.
This AEC-Q100-qualified motor driver can be controlled using analog, pulse width modulation (PWM), and clock signals with support for closed-loop control mechanism. It uses the built-in I2C interface to adjust motor-related parameters such as voltage, rated current, speed, resistance, and startup profiles. This IC is equipped with short-circuit protection (SCP) to prevent an over-current-related damage. It is available in a surface-mount package (with exposed thermal pad and wettable flank) that measures 5 x 5 mm.
