The MAX22200 from Maxim Integrated is an Integrated Serial-Controlled Solenoid and Motor Driver IC that is specifically designed for applications requiring low power and a high level of integration. It has an input voltage of 4.5 - 36 V and an output current of 1.5 A. This motor driver supports a serial interface (SPI) that allows daisy-chain configurations to individually control each channel. The half bridges integrated into the IC can either be architecturally paralleled to double the driving current or set as full bridges to drive up to four latching valves (bi-stable valves) or four brushed DC motors. It uses two control methods that are voltage drive regulation (VDR) and current drive regulation (CDR) to control the duty cycle of the delivered PWM voltage and sense the output current using an integrated lossless current sensing element (ICS).
This solenoid motor driver optimally controls the power delivered to the circuit by individually controlling the excitation drive level, hold drive level, and excitation drive time for each channel. It consists of built-in over-current protection (OCP), thermal shutdown (TSD), under-voltage Lockout (UVLO), and diagnostic functions to prevent signal fault events and short-circuit-related damages. This RoHS-compliant motor driver IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 x 5 mm and is ideal for relay drivers, solenoids, valves, electromagnetic drivers, and generic low-side and high-side switch applications.
