The BRD2x63C from Power Integrations are Self-Powered Half-Bridge Motor Drivers that are designed to dramatically simplify the development and production of high-voltage inverter-driven 1/3-phase PM and BLDC motor drives. They require an input voltage of 0.8-2.5 V and an input current of ±1.1 µA. These motor drivers incorporate two high-voltage N-channel power FREDFETs with low- and high-side drivers in a small package. The FREDFETs integrate ultra-soft and ultra-fast diodes that support hard-switched inverter driving operations. The drivers can be driven by a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal and provide a unique instantaneous phase current output signal that simplifies the implementation of sensorless control schemes.
These half-bridge motor drivers are equipped with fault protection (internal) and monitoring (external) to ensure high reliability during operation. The internal fault protection includes a cycle-by-cycle current limiting function and 2-level threshold over-load protection circuits. The external system-level monitoring, on the other hand, includes a DC bus sensor, four under-voltage lockout (UVLO) levels, a single over-voltage detector, and a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) sensor for over-current protection. These motor drivers utilize bi-directional bussed single-wire interfaces to extract status changes. The drivers have a new sleep mode state that reduces the power consumption per device to less than 4 mW. They are available in surface-mount packages that measure 13.63 x 10.80 mm and are ideal for fans, domestic appliances, and circulation pump applications.
