MCP16503 Image

The MCP16503 from Microchip Technology is a High-Accuracy PMIC designed to support general-purpose embedded microprocessor units (eMPUs) requiring dynamic voltage scaling (DVS). This PMIC requires an input voltage of 2.7-5.5V. It integrates four DC-DC buck regulators and two auxiliary LDOs, with startup voltages selectable via resistors and full adjustment available through a 1 MHz I²C interface. It provides up to 1 A load capability on each buck channel with 100% duty cycle operation, while the two 300 mA LDOs support sensitive analog loads. This PMIC features built-in default power channel sequencing tailored to MPU requirements, active discharge resistors on each output, and safe startup into pre-biased outputs. It offers adjustable output voltages from 0.6 V to 1.85 V for buck2–buck4, and from 1.2 V to 3.7 V for buck1 and the LDOs, with ±1% accuracy suitable for DDR, core, and CPU rails.
The MCP16503 supports low-noise forced PWM, high-efficiency light-load operation, and I²C-selectable displacement of PWM switching frequency. This PMIC draws less than 300 μA in low-power mode and under 10 μA in full shutdown. It provides optimized ESD protection, user-programmable fault response, and thermal shutdown with current limit protection. This PMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 × 5 mm.
