The PCA9451AHNY from NXP Semiconductors is a Power Management IC that has been designed to support i.MX 93x family of processors in both single-cell Li-ion/Li-polymer portable and 5 V adapter non-portable applications. It requires an input voltage of 2.7-5.5 V and provides an output current of 2 A. This power management IC (PMIC) incorporates 6 step-down regulators, 3 LDO voltage regulators, a 400 mA load switch, a dual-channel level translator, and a 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator driver. The buck regulators support a dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) mechanism with adjustable ramp-up and ramp-down times to achieve high-accuracy power output. The accuracy is further enhanced by compensating for the voltage drop occurring from the buck regulators to the load, thereby meeting the demands in critical supply rails.
This PMIC’s LDO regulators provide power to both the i.MX processor as well as the DRAM memory, while maintaining low quiescent current, which is an important characteristic in low-voltage systems since it enables longer battery life without sacrificing performance. This PMIC is also equipped with power control mechanisms such as power ON/OFF, stand-by, and run mode control for high power efficiency. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 7 x 7 mm and is ideal for tablets, electronic point of sales (ePOS), monitoring systems, infotainment, and IoT applications.
