The LT4356-3 from Analog Devices is a Surge Stopper IC that protects loads from high-voltage transients. It requires an input voltage of 4 - 80 V. This surge stopper regulates the output during an over-voltage event by controlling the gate of an external N-channel MOSFET. Therefore, the output is limited to a safe value to ensure the device's proper functioning. It also monitors the voltage drop between the supply and SNS pins to protect against over-current faults.

This surge stopper IC includes an auxiliary amplifier, which can be used either as a voltage detection comparator or as a linear regulator controller that drives an external PNP pass transistor. It uses back-to-back FET transistors instead of a Schottky diode for reverse input protection, reducing voltage drop and power loss. This IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 3 mm and is ideal for automotive/avionic surge protection, hot-swap/live insertion, and battery-powered applications.
