Single Chip MPPT with Backup Battery and LED Light
In recent years, price reductions for batteries, solar panels, and high-efficiency LEDs have made solar-powered lights an attractive alternative for areas without access to utility power or convenient cable installation. A small solar panel with a battery and LED lamp can provide light without electrical mains connection or maintenance. Using a charge controller that performs Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) can reduce wasted power, making the design more efficient and cost-effective. If using Li-Ion batteries, it is recommended to test the controller for end-of-charge conditions to prevent premature battery failure. Proper charging procedures ensure hundreds of charge cycles before capacity loss becomes significant.
