In this white paper, Brushless DC motor control is gaining popularity in cordless power tools due to increased efficiency, lower noise, and higher reliability. Sensorless sinusoidal BLDC motor drivers offer embedded commutation, reducing noise and driving costs without microcontrollers or custom software. However, addressing differing requirements across applications can be challenging. By embedding motor commutation algorithms in hardware, engineers can provide simple GUIs for start-up and running conditions, allowing multiple motors to share the same hardware with one device. This paper will discuss sensorless control algorithms and their advantages.
