FPT, the Iveco Group brand dedicated to the design, production, and sale of low-environmental impact powertrains, has obtained certification in accordance with European Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (Batteries Regulation) as a manufacturer of high-voltage batteries. In Europe, only three HV battery manufacturers, including FPT, boast this certification. The subject of the audit, recently performed at FPT’s carbon-neutral ePowertrain plant in Turin (Italy), was the complete design, development, and manufacturing process of the FPT eBS 37 EVO high-voltage battery for light commercial vehicles, minibuses, and pleasure boating applications.
The highly qualified multinational delegation involved in the audit was made up of three auditors from TÜV SÜD Denmark ApS, three representatives from DANAK – the National Accreditation Fund of Denmark – and one representative from Accredia – the National Accreditation Body of Italy. The overall feedback was very positive, and the auditors and observers were pleased with FPT’s quality system and assembly line. For customers of FPT high-voltage batteries, this certification provides further assurance of the quality of both our product and its performance, as the entire process has been scrutinized down to the smallest detail, and fully certified. The brand’s battery passport-ready high-voltage batteries give customers exactly what counts most: traceability, performance, durability, and above all trust.
This audit will be mandatory for all European battery manufacturers when regulation EU 2023/1542 comes into full effect, but FPT has complied with it since 2024. The FPT audit produced another remarkable result, since TÜV SÜD Denmark ApS obtained accreditation by DANAK according to European Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (Batteries Regulation), allowing them to certify high-voltage battery manufacturers with a CE mark. This result places TÜV SÜD among the first three technical service providers in Europe to reach this milestone.
Notably, TÜV SÜD chose FPT as a manufacturer of high-voltage batteries and IVECO Technology & Digital Validation & Homologation Vehicle & Battery Homologation, an Iveco Group body also responsible for type-approving FPT’s high-voltage batteries, to demonstrate that they were capable of conducting an audit at a battery manufacturer in an appropriate manner. “FPT demonstrated strong readiness ahead of schedule by passing the audit,” says Simone Gianoglio, Technology & Digital Validation & Homologation Vehicle & Battery Homologation for Iveco Group. “This is all the more gratifying for us since we were specifically chosen by TÜV SÜD as a pilot audit. This prestigious certification testifies our commitment to reliable, high-performance electrification solutions, with our range of advanced battery management systems and innovative energy storage systems, designed to maximize battery life and efficiency across a wide range of mission requirements.” “At FPT, we have seen a highly motivated and very professional team that has fully committed to embedding quality in the manufacturing process,” says Yalcin Ölmez, Lead Auditor for the EU Batteries Regulation at TÜV SÜD Denmark. “What we have seen is battery production that meets the highest standards.”
The eBS 37 EVO, a 37 kWh Battery Pack for light commercial vehicles, minibuses, and marine applications, is a modular battery pack that incorporates cells and modules with unique NMC Lithium-ion technology for impressive energy density and depth-of-discharge (95%), with advantages in terms of reduced battery weight. Thanks to its eBM 5 Battery Management System – entirely developed and produced by FPT – the eBS 37 EVO ensures an increased battery life according to mission requirements, while the special internal design allows the battery to meet the highest safety standards, ECE R100.4 & ECE R10. The eBS 37 EVO, like the other battery packs produced by FPT, is battery passport-ready.
The eBS 37 EVO is a 37 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack designed for light commercial vehicles, minibuses and marine use; it uses NMC 811 cells in a 96s2p configuration to deliver a nominal voltage of 355 V and a usable energy of about 35 kWh. The pack is water-cooled (water-glycol), rated for an energy density greater than 140 Wh/kg, weighs roughly 260 kg, measures 925 x 854 x 310 mm, and has a voltage operating window of about 259–403 V with a nominal capacity of 104 Ah. Continuous C-rate capability is 1C for charging and 2C for discharging, the expected lifecycle exceeds 2,500 cycles (depending on mission profile and depth of discharge), and the pack supports multipack configurations (up to 4 packs in parallel and up to 2 packs in series). Protection and regulatory features include an IP6K9K/IP67 ingress rating, compliance with ECE R100.3 and ECE R10.6 safety/regulation standards, and “battery passport” readiness for circularity and traceability. The pack integrates FPT’s proprietary eBM 5 Battery Management System (developed in-house) and a new internal design focused on meeting the highest safety standards while improving battery life according to mission requirements.
