Thank you to all nominees for their commitment to innovation,” said David A. Zapico, AMETEK Chairman & CEO.
Established in 2019, the Innovation Award recognizes AMETEK businesses’ efforts to develop and advance next-generation technology, products, and solutions for the niche markets served and celebrates the most innovative product developments from across the company.
"Receiving the Innovation Award is a proud moment that reflects the power of global teamwork," said Sam Hughes, Vice President – Business Unit Manager for AMETEK Programmable Power. "The Mi-BEAM Series was brought to life through close collaboration between our India and U.S. teams, combining engineering expertise and customer feedback to deliver a truly innovative solution for complex, high-power testing applications."
The Challenge
How does the manufacturer of a rechargeable battery know that it will safely and quickly charge? That’s a challenge that Programmable Power’s Mi-BEAM Product Series helps their customers solve.
To design this technology, Programmable Power utilized the New Product Development process using a cross-functional, international team with members from the United States and India. They incorporated customer feedback and followed Value Analysis/Value Engineering processes, which optimize cost and performance. The team also created common sub-assemblies to reduce costs and simplify manufacturing.
The Results
The Mi-BEAM Product Series tests and simulates batteries and solar power systems to help Programmable Power’s customers determine faster voltage and current rise times, improved safety, and decreased carbon footprint.
Mi-BEAM technology also features integrated software for battery and solar panel simulation and an overall reduced system size by over 50%. With its enhanced ease of use, Programmable Power saw an increase in organic growth driven by demand for all-in-one instruments for battery applications.
The business’s leadership and customer-driven approach to innovation ensured that they responded to customer needs—and then exceeded expectations.
