LG Magna e-Powertrain, the joint venture between LG Electronics and Magna International, has spotlighted its suite of high-performance electric motors, designed to deliver exceptional efficiency, power, and torque for a wide range of electrified vehicles. From mild-hybrid to full battery-electric designs, these motors represent a core pillar of the company’s scalable, eco-friendly powertrain strategy.

Key Features & Technology Highlights

Flexible Architecture: The motor line supports both PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and ASM (Asynchronous Motor) configurations, using either hairpin or round wire, and a modular design to suit different EV architectures.

Cooling Options: To match diverse use cases, LG Magna offers air-cooled, water-cooled, and oil-cooled variants, optimizing thermal management for performance and durability.

Wide Application Range: Designed for everything from 48 V mild-hybrids (MHEV) to 400 V and 800 V full EV systems, these motors deliver high efficiency and power.

Sustainability Focus: Some models even offer rare-earth-free solutions, minimizing environmental impact and supply risk.

High-Performance Motor Series Overview

  • The WP1002 motor, targeted for MHEV applications, produces approximately 25 kW, 90 Nm of torque, and spins at up to 20000 rpm, achieving efficiency around 96%.
  • The HP1505 is built for BEV and PHEV platforms, delivering 75 kW (scalable from 50–100 kW), 150 Nm torque, with either 400 V or 800 V compatibility, while maintaining up to 96% efficiency.
  • The HP1015 drives more powerful EVs with 160 kW, 300 Nm torque, and speeds reaching approximately 16000 rpm.
  • The flagship HP1521 model is ideal for high-performance BEVs, offering up to 200 kW power and 400 Nm torque on 400 V or 800 V systems.

These motors are built to optimize driving feel and efficiency. LG Magna’s design delivers instantaneous torque (due to current-based control), enabling smooth acceleration without the vibration or noise typical of internal-combustion engines. By leveraging modular and automated production methodologies, LG Magna can scale its offerings while keeping quality high. 

LG-Magna recently announced a new production facility in Miskolc, Hungary, to support increased EV component demand, including e-motors. This move underscores LG Magna’s commitment to localized production and meeting rising European EV needs.
