The MAX17335 from Analog Devices is a Standalone Battery Fuel Gauge and Protector IC designed for 1-cell lithium-ion/polymer batteries. It requires a supply voltage of 2.16-4.9 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) incorporates AccuCharge™ charger control with configurable charge current and voltage parameters. It features the ModelGauge™ m5 EZ algorithm for accurate state-of-charge (SOC), capacity and time-to-empty/full reporting across temperature and aging conditions. This BMIC includes a non-volatile programmable charger with 1% charge current accuracy across 256 settings and 0.25% voltage precision from 2.42-4.8V, which includes JEITA support for 9 temperature regions, step-charging, and FET heat regulation. It benefits from protection against over/undervoltage, overcurrent, short-circuit, over/under temperature, overcharge, and internal self-discharge using external high-side N-FETs.
This BMIC has an ultra-low quiescent current that supports I²C/1-Wire, pushbutton wakeup, and history logging. It suits low-power USB charging, high-power parallel packs with cross-charging prevention, and ideal diode operation for fast transients. This RoHS-compliant BMIC is available as a wafer that measures 1.9 x 2.5 x 0.5 mm and is suitable for USB PPS and direct charging, smart batteries and hybrid supercap batteries, dual screen smartphones, tablets, hearables, wearables, smartwatches, medical devices, health, fitness monitors, handheld radios, computers, accessories, home/building automation, sensors, cameras, and parallel battery AR/VR systems.
