The ML5248MBZ0CX from ROHM Semiconductor is an Analog-front-end Protection IC for the 7-cell Li-ion rechargeable battery pack. It requires an input voltage of 5-31.5 V. This Battery Management IC (BMIC) features individual cell voltage monitoring and charge/discharge current monitoring function, and the external MCU controls overcharge/undervoltage protection and overcurrent protection of each cell. It detects short circuit current without an external MCU and automatically turns on or turns off the external charge/discharge NMOS-FET. This BMIC includes a 3- to 7-cell high-precision cell voltage monitoring function and has a built-in cell balancing switch on each cell. It is available on a surface-mount package that measures 9.70 x 7.60 x 1.85 mm and is ideal for power tools, garden tools, and cordless cleaners.
