The SVLTR5005SF/K from VPT is a Space Qualified Buck DC-DC Converter that converts an input voltage of 30 - 60 V to an output voltage of 5 V. It delivers an output power of up to 30 W and has an efficiency of 79%. This converter has been specifically designed for use in harsh radiation environments of space applications. It guarantees reliable performance through the use of hardened semiconductor components, radiation lot acceptance testing (RLAT) of non-hardened components, and analysis. This buck converter has been characterized for total ionizing dose (TID) performance including enhanced low dose rate sensitivity (ELDRS) and single event effects (SEE) as per MIL-PRF-38535, Appendix G, Level L military standards. It has built-in transformer-based isolation and eliminates the need to use opto-isolators.
This space-qualified converter integrates under voltage lockout (UVLO), current limit protection, and short-circuit protection (SCP) to prevent false triggers and over-current-related damages. It also offers a proprietary radiation-immune magnetic feedback circuit that provides bias voltage to all the secondary control circuits and control amplifiers before the start of the output, ensuring a well-controlled start-up sequence. This DC-DC converter is available in a seam-welded, hermetically-sealed flange-mount package that measures 2.890 x 1.125 x 0.405 inches and is ideal for low earth orbit (LEO), medium earth orbit (MEO), geostationary orbit (GEO), launch vehicles, and deep space applications.
